The Rugby World Cup 2011 will be held across New Zealand over a six-week period in September and October 2011. Twenty countries will participate in the 48-game tournament, with matches held all over New Zealand.

If you're travelling around the South Island NZ during the Rugby World Cup 2011 series, take time out to explore what South Canterbury has to offer. When you've had enough of the hype in the larger centres, a two-hour drive from Christchurch will bring you to a more relaxed pace where you can chill out with family and friends away from crowds and heavy traffic.

A perfect stop for a short break between matches, South Canterbury offers a wide range of South Island accommodation options, from hotel/motel through to boutique Bed and Breakfast, lodges and holiday parks, with plenty of activities to amuse the kids.

If you feel like time-out from the game series, why not try some of these activities in between matches:

South Canterbury will also be getting involved with Festival of New Zealand events during the period of the Rugby World Cup.
